Dental Therapy

What is dental therapy?

Dentistry is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of tooth decay. This process involves removing the decayed tissue, cleaning, preparing the affected area and restoring the tooth with dental tissue-like materials.

Whether it’s cavities on the front or side teeth, treatment is equally important. Tooth decay is a progressive lesion of tooth enamel that, if left untreated, can advance inside the tooth and reach the dental pulp, causing infection and intense pain.

  • Cavities on the front teeth: Cavities on the front teeth refer to decay affecting the front teeth, also known as incisors and canines. These teeth are constantly exposed, and front cavities can have an unpleasant aesthetic impact. Because the front teeth are more visible, any damage caused by decay can be obvious and can affect self-confidence.
  • Lateral tooth decay: Lateral tooth decay refers to cavities that affect the molars and premolars, which are located at the back of the teeth. These teeth are involved in the chewing process and may have a complex surface, which can make them more susceptible to plaque buildup and cavities. Cavities on the lateral teeth can be more difficult to notice, they can progress and lead to complications such as pain, infection and damage to the tooth structure.

Treatment of tooth decay is very important for maintaining dental health and preventing further complications. In the early stages, cavities can be asymptomatic and painless, but if left untreated, they can progress and damage the internal structure of the tooth, such as the pulp and roots. This can lead to infection, intense pain and even tooth loss. Caries treatment not only prevents the progression of the condition and the associated pain, it also restores normal tooth function and prevents early tooth loss.
